A warning for future medical students. This unit is incredibly difficult and requires 8-10 hours per week of study. There are 3 assignments and 2 online tests. The tests are straightforward enough, but the assignments are marked very harshly and questions left open to interpretation. There is no exam and weekly content consists of lecture and computing notes with calculations to do by hand and by SPSS. My advice is to familiarise yourself with the program and get really good at doing the calculations by hand. With all that said, I still would recommend this unit if you are doing the MPH over Health Promotion, as you have a higher possibility of getting higher marks (if that's your thing). Do not expect an easy time, do the work, stay on top of things, start the assignments early, and you might find this unit acceptable.

Quite an interesting unit. It covers on a lot of biostatistic techniques used in epidemiology. It does get quite difficult with the assessment. There's lots of little tricks to try and throw students off. My advice would be to get down a really solid understanding of the techniques (this unit does require quite a bit of study time) and then go throw the assessments slowly. Double check each question to make sure you haven't been caught out. For example, double check the units in the questions and what the question is specifically asking. The final is multi choice, so even if you've gone about the question the right way if you select the wrong answer (units or rounding or whatever) then obviously you won't get the mark.
