Specialise in STAT1520, ECOM2001, PUBH4401, PUBH2203, EPID1000 and PSYC2203 Maths and Stats aren’t the easiest subjects to get through, and if you’re coming into a compulsory maths/stats unit without much of a maths background it could very well look like you’re trying to learn a foreign language. The fact that it all builds on earlier topics covered means by a couple of weeks in, you could be feeling left quite behind very quickly. The good news is that by working through it step by step and building on the fundamentals, what was once very intimidating now doesn’t seem that difficult at all! As a tutor, I help busy students study more effectively and get on top of their unit material quicker. For the past 4 years I’ve been tutoring a very wide range of students and professionals in mathematics and statistics. A recent focus of my tutoring has been on helping undergraduate and postgrad students in biostatistics, mostly for public health units. In addition to that and the standard undergrad maths/stats subjects (psych stats, calculus, linear algebra etc.) I’ve also tutored a number of people looking to sit the GMAT exam to get into business school and students sitting the defence force entrance exam. I have a Bachelor of Science degree with an extended major in mathematics from the University of Queensland (with two semesters undertaken cross institutionally at UWA). During my time studying some difficult units, I found summarising my notes with flow charts and breaking problems down into small steps helped greatly and I’ve found that helping students with this technique really translates well with tutoring. It helps students greatly in understanding the fundamentals of the material and accelerates the progress, cutting back on the frustrating hours being spent trying to learn it solo. My main strength as a tutor lies in the fact that I’m very patient with students and I can explain the concepts from different angles until it sinks in. I’m a problem solver that likes to break down a concept and explain it as simply as possible. If you need help or have any questions, feel free to contact me. I usually tutor at UWA / Curtin / Murdoch or somewhere nearby and charge 60 an hour for uni level material. I’m pretty flexible with places/times and I have also provided feedback/proofread work for those studying overseas or interstate so am able to do some basic online tutoring too! I look forward to helping you in maths/stats! With a unique and individual plan for learning, working on the things you need to cover most, you can best prepare for exams and get through assignments as stress free as possible!

Jon tutored me for biostatistics for a semester and WOW what a saviour he has been! He makes understanding difficult concepts easy. He is amazing at explaining notes and would go through it with me until I was absolutely clear on a topic. I have had tutors in the past but non as dedicated in helping their students as Jon is. To anyone struggling, I 100% recommend getting Jon as your tutor because he has helped me achieved excellent marks. Jon is also extremely patient and will repeat any clarifications again and again until you understand it. Definitely contact Jon as your tutor!

Jon tutored me for STAT1520 and was absolutely amazing. I had done the unit previously and put it off until my second last semester to do it again as I dreaded doing it again and had zero confidence in doing well. Jon was patient and super understanding! We set goals for every session, tackling topics I absolutely did not like doing. He helped me write notes that were easy to understand, breaking down the fundamentals of each topic. He made studying for STAT1520 seamless and enjoyable. After a couple of sessions with Jon, I didn’t dread studying for STAT1520 as much anymore and could confidently say that I understood everything right before my exam. Thank you so much for your help, Jon!

Jon was an amazing tutor for STAT1520 at UWA! He was extremely organised and always came prepared with practice questions for each chapter. Jon was able to break down the main concepts in ways that were much easier to understand. Jon was extremely patient and always made time to clarify any concepts I was unsure about. His chapter summaries were also extremely helpful and allowed me to do well in weekly quizzes and assessments. I saw a huge improvement in my marks, all thanks to Jon! I highly recommend meeting with Jon if you need any help with STAT1520!!!

Jon tutored me for my quantitative data unit at Curtin University as part of my MPH. After sitting my first test and only just scrapping by with a pass I decided I needed help. Jon was a huge help. I did not have any maths background, and he was very kind, understanding and worked around my limited maths knowledge. I was super stressed by this unit, however knowing I could see Jon weekly to work through things was a huge help, took the stress off and I started to relax and enjoy the unit (and learn enough to help others!) My only regret was not recognising I needed help sooner then the first test. I would recommend Jon as a tutor to anyone who needs some support. He was always reliable and made time to see me. I really appreciated all of his help!

I met Jon not knowing a thing about stats, maths and everything in between. Jon tutored me for PUBH4401 and thank goodness I found him. Jon is extremely patient, friendly and you never felt incompetent when giving a question a go. Jon explained things in such a learning friendly manner and changed questions around so that you could understand them in your own way. Jon was always on time and provided his own simplified notes (which was a god send). I cannot recommend Jon enough, and will be forever thankful for his expertise and helping me pass this unit. Thank you Jon!!

Jon helped me with PSYC2203 & made it all super clear for me. Before I couldn’t understand what I was reading, as I have no background knowledge for the subject - but he explained things very clearly & would go over what I didn’t understand more than once. Highly recommend him as a tutor! Super patient & doesn’t make you feel like you are asking stupid questions. 10/10

Jon is one of the most patient, thoughtful people I have ever been taught by. He never thought I was asking stupid questions, and if I didn't understand something he was always happy to explain it differently until I did. I love his interactive teaching methods with lots of images and diagrams and discussion. I highly recommend him to anyone!

Jon helped me so much to understand quantitative methods for my Psyc class, without him I don’t think I would have passed. He does such a great job at breaking things down for you, and steps you through it in a way that easier to follow than what you get from the lectures. I had tried other tutors but Jon was easily the best as he’s actually putting in the effort to help you understand not just reading through slides with you, which makes all the difference. If you can, I highly recommend getting his help, he gave me a lot more confidence going into exams and in general. Thanks Jon!

Jon tutored me in the infamous STAT1520. From the get go, Jon explained all concepts and topics clearly and went through the easiest method to obtain the correct answer. Jon is patient and willing to try his hardest in assisting one to fully grasp any concept. I would recommend Jon to anyone who has difficulty with mathematics or statistics. It becomes evident that Jon is very passionate about tutoring and that he is determined to help each and every one of his students achieve the best possible result. Never in a million did I think it would be possible to finish STAT1520 on a distinction!

Jon was a great tutor for STAT1520! Very organised, prepared and explained things in an easy way; and EXTREMELY PATIENT with my difficulty in understanding some concepts that required constant repetition. While doing test prep, I found his methods of solving the problems were easier to understand than the solutions as explained by the lecturer or past exam answers provided. I got the mark I wanted for the class and couldn’t recommend him more!! Thanks Jon!

Jon is my tutor for STAT1520 at UWA. My first two sessions with Jon saw a dramatic increase in my results (and understanding) from Test 1 to the mid sem. I was preparing myself to fail the unit but now I have hope thanks to Jon! I have used several tutors over my time at uni and have been particularly impressed with Jon. Firstly he is incredibly easy to deal with - reliable, prompt with responses and always prepared and on time. I have found his tutoring style excellent - he is patient, non judgemental and has an approachable, kind manner. Lastly he is highly knowledge in the subject and helps makes sense of it all (even though I am a non-maths minded person). I would highly recommend Jon as a tutor, if you are struggling do not hesitate - contact Jon!

Jon tutored me in stats for a semester, I've had tutors before and I've found Jon to be by far the best tutor I've had. I would say the best quality is Jon prepares notes on each weeks material and walks you through the processes involved. This helps give better understanding of the fundamentals of the material. The other thing that makes Jon a great tutor is he doesn't look at his phone while you work through a question. He watches you process and gives advice after completion. I've had tutors that look at their phones while working a problem and there is a disconnect, obviously. I highflying recommend Jon for your tutoring needs.
