Reviews

Great lecturer and amazing tutor who went above and beyond to engage and include everyone. Really excellent foundation of basic theory.

I really enjoyed POLS13O1. Tutorials were engaging. I was able to more fully understand my own political opinions.

Helpful course to get a foundation of politics and political ideologies. Found the lectures fairly boring, but the tutorials were better. It may not be overly riveting, but it is extremely helpful in terms of getting useful information for future subjects.

The structure of the course was inconsistent and we often ran out of time to cover the content in lectures, leaving the tutors to pick up the pieces. The assessment is heavily weighted making it a pass or fail kind of course. The content was interesting however didn't connect well to real world issues and felt too lofty to have any real application.

This was one of my least favourite subjects studied as part of International Relations, though that may have been that the learning material follows a lot of what is covered in POLS1201. I found the lectures quite boring, however, the tutorials were interesting as it allowed for good debate.

I liked this subject as well as POLS1601, because both courses are really straightforward, in tutorials you discuss interesting topics that are issues in today's society. The readings and assessment chosen, I found was easy to follow and you could always ask the lecturer or your tutor for clarification. I found courses like these two, actually want to hear your opinion on things, and challenge you to look at these in a different way. Some people find the lectures really slow and boring, but I think the tutorials are run well, can be interesting, and the assessment is easy and a little different from other first year courses. Everything is set out and explained in a lot of detail, making it quite easy to follow.
