Reviews

I found this course an odd mix of boring and useful. The lectures are not very well presented, although the lecturer is very nice, so I stopped attending pretty early on (and didn't bother listening to recordings, either). I passed the mid-semester exam by binge reading the textbook the day of the exam (get it out of the library instead of buying it). I actually found the tutorials to be engaging and useful. The group assessment was the best group work I've ever done, and the only time I've ever enjoyed working in a group. Having a clear precedent for setting expectations and rules in group work made it much easier for our whole group to work towards shared goals. I felt like most of my learning in the course actually came from the research that we did for our group presentation. The essay is very easy if you're diligent in keeping your weekly reflections about your group, because you basically just expand and chuck in some references. I can't say I'm disappointed I did this course, but I would like to see the lectures improved to actually have relevance in the future.

Boring lectures with basic information on communication. Lots of people commented this semester on the lecturer's inability to engage with the class (which is particularly ironic in a communication class). Easy to pass in. The only thing that made up for the boring lectures was my tutor. She was awesome and I learnt far more from her than the lecturer.

Extremely easy subject. I found it to be fairly boring and the assessment was not the most clear; however, if you could ascertain what the tutor was looking for, you were able to achieve quite a high mark.

Easy subject to get good grades in if you attend all of the lectures and tutes. Some interesting content but has some tedious assessment work.

Easy but vague assessment - pretty boring

This subject is a core for communications and psychology, but there are far more psych students in the course itself semester to semester. It covers interesting content, although it can be somewhat repetitive and common-sensical. Gets you thinking about the things we all do (consciously or not) when we're communicating with other people, and how to manipulate these skills in order to communicate more effectively.

Really easy subject. Crosses over with COMU1010 a little too much and needs to be a little more psychology based as it is a core psych subject.

I really liked this subject. It is a psychology subject so if you like that sort of thing - its really good. It also makes COMU1010 really easy. If you paid any attention during lectures then the exam is a breeze.
