I enjoyed this unit a lot! Really interesting content, especially if you're interested in linguistics, and it is all quite easy to understand. The weekly tutorials aren't compulsory but I would recommend going just to consolidate your understanding, and Amanda was always helpful and enthusiastic about the topics we covered. There are 4 or 5 online quizzes which are open for 2 weeks and you can use all your resources so they are very doable. The exam was only out of 40 marks and it was pretty easy too, just have to make sure you have a good understanding of all the topics covered during the semester :) Overall, I'd definitely recommend this unit for something chill, even if you aren't that interested in linguistics!

A very interesting unit that offers an insight into the broad field of linguistics. It offers many opportunities for you to test your understanding of the concepts and apply them to real-world scenarios: engaging tutorials run weekly, short online tests run once every two weeks. Don't get your anxieties - or hopes - up though, linguistics won't teach you how to speak every language in the world (you WILL however learn, why such a 'cheat code' isn't possible) or give you a massive book on the definitively correct way to speak English (you WILL however explore, what 'correct' means). If you've ever been interested in unpacking the peculiarities of language, definitely jump on board!
