Yee Kwong Leong is the wrost professor I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. He didn't fill out the unit outline accurately, having incorrect due dates that were only found out to be incorrect just before he decided the assignment would be due, by putting up a submission page on LMS with the real due date 2 days before it was due, even though the unit outline would say a week from there. He didn't fill out the LMS page, instead leaving placeholder textboxes everywhere that looked literally like [Fill in this information before start of unit]. Just a poor excuse for a teacher. His lectures were so badly organised, filled with rambling and incoherent speech that forced the vast majority of students to just disregard the lectures and have to learn solo. He didn't create nice engaging lecture material, instead opting for pieces of paper he printed out with information, and just scribbled on top of them for notes as he taught. He used a birds eye camera to teach. He could easily spend some time creating nice lectures slides but he's very lazy. His email responses are some of the worst parts of him. Multiple people I knew had this issue, where we would email asking for explicit questions to be answered, and he would send one or two sentence responses that didn't answer anything. We would have to email multiple times to get a partial answer at best. Please anyone taking this unit in the future, keep an eye out for this stuff and fill out the surveys. Make sure they are highly negative, give detailed feedback. If he improves on this stuff then great, I really hope he does, but this is not acceptable for UWA professors teaching standards. I haven't learned anything from him, learning all from using the textbook, some of the practice questions he's using from 10 years ago, and AI teaching anything I don't understand to me. What's the point of paying for this unit if i'm teaching myself anyway. UWA generally has decent standards, but this is by far terrible. The only reason he's employed is his outstanding research contributions. The most heartbreaking thing about Yee Kwong Leong is that he is so incredibly intelligent, and produces some excellent research and discoveries in his various fields of expertise. He has a PhD, yet can't put just a little time into organising a unit outline with correct information? Or writing some new practice problems or creating new tests instead of using the same questions for the last 10 years. It's heart breaking because we can't chalk it up to incompetence. I like to assume incompetence before malice, but he's demonstrated over the past few decades he is not incompetent. So what does that leave us? Please anyone taking this unit and reading this, fill out the feedback surveys, report things to the respective diciplinary bodies. Please do not let this stand, only students can enact change by giving this feedback. We are paying thousands for education here and spending countless hours working on Yee Kwong Leong's assigned work. We deserve respect in return and we are currently being spat on.
