Reviews

This was a unit that helped you decide if you were interested in psychology or not. Luckily for me, it just solidified interest. The subject is hard, there is a lot to learn, a lot to read and a lot to take in. I see in another review someone mentioned they didn't understand why we had to learn the structure of the ear and the eye - hopefully if you're doing psychology past first year, you will see the importance of this type of information as well as information on more specific neurobiological structures, their use and purpose in the body and more importantly, their impact on psychology. The lecturers were all good. I'm a big Caleb fan and found his lectures both interesting, easy to understand and straight forward. Psychology is not an easy pass subject (which some seemed to be under the impression it was). Tutorials are great to help solidify your understanding of material but it would be better if other students bothered doing the readings prior to the tutes and had more to say than just "here" when the names were called at the start. Overall, this is a great subject but it's hard. Ending with a distinction was hard work.

Theory can be pretty dismal, first example that comes to mind is that at some point you have to learn the structure of the ear and the eye (what?) as if it's that relevant to the topic of psychology of perception. In my year we did a report which was pretty brutal on first years. Tutorials are like content classes. Quizzes are very poorly made with answers too heavy on semantics/up for interpretation. Overall it was a subject with low commitment required, low commitment desired, a decent level of very basic psychology taught.
