Reviews

Not an enjoyable unit. The subject (ie engineering materials as a whole) is interesting but the pacing of content in lectures is very quick. As a result, tutorials go at a fast pace, without time to write down calculation solutions to questions. Use a lot of time to do practice questions. I found myself with a shallow understanding of topics (shallower than i would like it) due to the broad scope of content. Very knowledgeable uc but the explanation of content during lectures were convoluted. Also another criticism, the uc changed the format of the midsem quiz (by removing mcq's), and only notified students via replies on ed discussion posts 3 days before the quiz and during a lecture later on.

Xiaozhou Liao tried hardly to teach, but the fact was opposed to what he expected—a boring and poor teaching unit created. and the marking of lab reports was ambigious. The result didn't attach any explanation for why you lost your marks. I don't know if this is too hard to do at this university.

Lectures and tutorials are quite boring and the amount of content you have to learn is very excessive.

Lectures for this subject were quite poorly planned out, confusing slides and generally not very interesting.
