Reviews

Adding my review for 'Politics of Sex' here as well, as this is the same subject, just renamed Awesome - Lauren is a great lecturer, so engaging and very interesting to listen to. Gemma as a tutor is lovely and gives really in depth feedback. A great contemporary feminist subject. Only thing I will say is that it is really hard to do well in this subject. I was quite disappointed in my grades because I spent SO MUCH time and effort on my essays and felt that I was addressing all the criteria really well, but only got H2As

Intellectually and "emotionally" challenging. Some radical feminist theories really get on your nerves, but at the same time you will learn how to appreciate their analyses. As a heterosexual male student, I did feel my opinions were underappreciated, and received some level of hostility from other female students. The only fortunate thing that I had it going was that I am not white. lol But in all seriousness, do not be frightened. Just because of their female status doesn't automatically render their opinions more valid. But at the same time, as a male student, you need to humbly accept and listen to their voices, after all you do not experience the same level of social stigma and oppression as them. In short, be ready to challenge people and be ready to be challenged. As feminism is still a relatively new social movement/ theory, it is a highly controversial and diverse concept. Be open minded. Overall very interesting. My score: H1.
