This subject barely discussed the music of the 19th century. Music History 1 was a great subject, as it discussed the music of the baroque and classical period in detail. All this subject discussed was social issues going on during this century. It was interesting to learn about racism and sexism in the 19th century, but this is literally all we discussed each week. The lectures were painfully boring. After completing this subject, I feel like I learnt 10% about music, while the other 90% was about 19th-century social and political issues. I wanted to learn about the music of this century because I love 19th-century classical music. dissapointing. The listening test was also so hard, and impossible to finish in time.

Would not recommend studying this subject!! After receiving a 90 (H1) in Music History 1, due to very subjective and biased marking of the listening exam and final essay, I only received a H2A for this subject overall. In terms of enjoyment, it is a fun and relaxing subject, but it you are looking to boost your WAM it is definitely not the way to go.
