GAMSAT S2 Tutor - highest score 91 - Informative Classes and Essay Feedback - Current 1st year DMD student at the University of Sydney About me: Graduated from BBMED Honours (H1 honours) 1st round MD offers received from USYD and UQ Section 2 score of 91 In complete utter honesty, Section 2 was easily the most frustrating part of the GAMSAT for me. My strongest sections were S1 and S3, but S2 was all over the place. In my second sitting alone, my score dropped from 65 to 58, even though my prep felt pretty similar. I was practising essays, getting “okay” feedback, and still had no real idea how to improve in a meaningful way. What eventually helped was properly understanding what S2 is actually asking for, and how essays are marked. Once I stopped treating it like a creative writing task and started approaching it in a more structured way, things finally clicked. My S2 scores went from being completely unpredictable to: 84 in my third sitting 91 in March 2025, which helped me get into medicine at USYD and UQ Essays are subjective, and ultimately no system guarantees a perfect score, but I think my lengthy experience with this damn exam has allowed me to develop an approach that is pretty comprehensive, paints a clear picture of the essay as a whole, gives you ideas to implement in any prompt, and helps you write essays that consistently hit the things examiners care about. How I Teach: I like to keep things pretty simple and practical, giving you some informative tips and points of advice based on what worked for me. Building up a pool of high yield themes for both Task A and B, as well as providing insight to both. Breaking down prompts and quotes in a way that makes sense and is generally more holistic (the themes of A and B are more similar than you think) --> developing strong, flexible ideas you can use across topics Writing clearly and cohesively under time pressure Understanding why an essay scores well, not just what 'sounds good', and to build your own voice Sessions are tailored to where you’re at - whether its your first time, or a multiple time sitter, we'll just go with what your needs are! I’m not someone who just always got good S2 scores. I had ok S1 and S3 scores, struggled badly with S2, and only improved once I took a step back, put in the hours, and figured out what I was doing wrong. I hope to quicken that process for you, so you can avoid the mistakes that I made.
