UniMelb Health Tutor John

<< GAMSAT tutoring >> scored 100 in S3 twice // overall scores of 86 and 87 // Unimelb MD student
Preparing for September 2025? You've come to the right place.
About me:
I have sat the GAMSAT twice. I scored 87 and 86 overall, including 100 in S3 both times and an average score of 77 for S1.
March 2016: 78/72/100 = 87 overall
March 2023: 76/68/100 = 86 overall
I'm happy to help you with any section. For regular tutoring I'm best at teaching S3, however I also enjoy helping students with S1.
I'm a current Melb MD student. I have (twice) successfully gained entry via GEMSAS. My undergrad degree was a Bachelor of Biomedicine majoring in Immunology (2015-2017).
What to expect:
- A 'skills development' approach to preparing for the GAMSAT
- We'll use practice questions as a basis for discussing fundamental reading/reasoning skills + exam technique, revisiting/relearning basic science concepts + maths skills (for S3), and identifying weaknesses that need specific attention.
- I am not a 'science curriculum' tutor – beyond foundational understanding, knowledge-heavy approaches to the GAMSAT are misguided. My aim is to help you approach S3 questions with confidence regardless of your academic background.
- I will provide you a perspective on the test based on my own experiences; I have never worked for a med entry tuition company.
If you are lacking confidence in basic maths/science fundamentals:
- I can assist you with revising relevant concepts up to a GAMSAT standard, i.e. maths/bio/chem/physics etc
- I have extensive experience with biology in particular, as a tutor/lecturer for the Australian Science Olympiads Biology program since 2016 (teaching university-level Biology to advanced Year 12 students).
Regarding the lessons:
- I can tutor you over Zoom, or in person in Melb CBD / Uni
- The rate is $90 per 1 hour session for individual tuition.
- Casual or regular help available
If interested: let me know and I will send you a list of upcoming availabilities to get started.
Prior to or during our first session it would be nice to get to know more about you (e.g. what your academic background is, what you'd like from a tutor, whether you've sat the GAMSAT already / what you're working on, that sort of thing). We can chat beforehand or set aside part of the first session to discuss the above.
Looking forward to hearing from you if you're interested. All the best :)
