Easy and fun! I did it as part of my astrophysics minor but I recommend it to everyone, regardless of what they're studying, because it really does start right from the start, make astro really accessible, and it's interesting and fun!

Interesting content and enthusiastic lecturers. The set up of the course isn't great such as the lectorials not being recorded and 15 mark tests contributing to 15% of your overall grade. If you are willing to work hard throughout semester you can do well.

If you are interested in astronomy and want to appreciate the wonders of Universe this unit is for you. You will learn all the cool stuff that we hear from popular science media but at much deeper level: extrasolar planets, evolution of stars, galaxies, black holes, dark matter. What's awesome about this unit is that it does not have lectures. You read it right: no lectures. I really like that because lectures are boring and huge waste of time, in my opinion. Instead, the unit uses the modern "flipped classroom" approach popularized by Salman Khan on Khan Academy. You learn by consuming the material at home by reading the textbook, watching videos and doing interactive tutorial on your computer. And in uni you do your "homework" during the two 2-hour workshops per week where you are actually doing astronomy by analyzing real data from telescopes, crunching numbers on calculator, interacting with other students, asking questions, doing a lot of mistakes and learning from them. After only one month of studying I learned more about the Universe than I did from years of consuming popular science books and podcasts on this subject.

Fascinating for new astronomers (bit challenging too). A bit boring for others since it covers the very basics. Labs are helpful most of the time. Lectures are easy to follow.
