Reviews

The lecturer is outstanding, knowledgeable and engaging. We were very lucky to have such an inspiring teacher. I learnt so much in this subject and there was a good mix of different time periods to suit everyone. A huge drawback were the tutorials and assessments. The assessment was to work as a group to create a video, which was downright painful for ancient history students who have no experience with this. The videos were marked incredibly harshly - it seemed the marker did not take into account that we are ancient history students and not digital media students. The tutorials were therefore spent teaching us incredibly basic skills on video editing, skills which I know I will never need, whereas I would have much rather used the time to discuss the lectures as the topics were so interesting and delivered very well. I appreciate and agree that academic discourse should not be limited to the written word, but if we wanted to learn how to create videos, we would have chosen to study that. I doubt very much I will need that skill in the workplace. So it was somewhat disappointing, and very painful to work in a group, but the content was amazing and the lecturer was brilliant.
