2019 and its still a bad class. It is extremely rigid: No phones, no laptops, writing on paper only, reference only from the reading, we are advised not to get ideas from external sources like youtube videos or other readings. We are advised not to use grammarly. We are advised not to memorise the final in-class essay, but to "recognise". This fails on so many levels of pedagogy. I understand that they are trying to get people to think harder, but none of it makes any sense and they don't really explain their reasoning. It's not conventional at all, and it's the only unit where my GPA has dropped because of following these bad rules and advices

Absolutely hated this class.. don't see the point of it.. Never been so happy to pass a unit so I know for sure I never have to sit through that sleep-inducing babbling again.

I did not enjoy the subject because the readings got the better of me. The language was hard to understand and there was too much reading to be done. I wouldn't mind it if the information is useful but I did not see a practical application by studying the subject. However, if you enjoy studying linguistic, you might doing well in this unit.

It's amazing how you can find out that the one who wears a hat is the head of a household! Lots of reading and you better be able to read between the lines.

very boring at times

If you like philosophy and life's big questions it's a good intro unit, however I found most people hated it because they didn't understand or just didn't bother trying. Personally I didn't mind this unit at all and it's not as bad as it seems.

Some of the texts are irrelevant and the unit reader wasn't clear with the expectations. The final assessments were difficult and the varied texts added to the confusion.

Alright unit. The concepts in this unit weren't too difficult but the marking was very biased and there were just too many texts being covered in a short period of time.

Difficult subject if you don't do the readings/have the proper reading materials - I've learnt first hand.

I hate reading and tbh didnt read any of the content, was boring and waste of my mine really
