This unit was overall pretty good! The only concern I have was with regards to the timing of the quiz we had to do, 30qs in 30 mins is not enough time. Other than that the rest of the unit was pretty straightforward, the lab report was easy enough to do for a third year unit! If people don’t know how to do a lab report in a third year psychology unit, quite frankly I don’t think they should be doing psyc! All of the lectures were good and I feel like every lecture was explained thoroughly despite that the slides were a bit bare but the textbook helped, the lecturers also did provide enough detail and I’ve seen some complaints about the fact the lectures were crap, well they weren’t if you actually watched the lectures like I did !! The best lecturers I believe were Jason bell’s and romina Palermo! They made their lectures quite interesting. The exam for this unit was reasonable as well and during the last lecture David provides a little outline on how to answer the essay questions which I found to help a lot and following his advice I got 84 on the exam! There is a little bit of work that you need to do in this unit but if you put in the work you’ll get a good mark like I did! I ended up with a HD.

Despite no complaints regarding the unit coordinators, lecturers, etc., this has been my least favourite psychology unit that I’ve done at UWA, and I only have one unit left in my degree. This unit is WAY more content-heavy than your typical psychology course. If you end up taking this unit, expect to spend 3x the amount studying than you usually would for a psyc unit (75% of the exam is short essay, so you cant rely on recognition in multiple choice!). Not to mention the lab report seemed more focused on optometry than psychology — coming from someone who finds lab reports to be their strong suit, I seriously had no idea what the heck I was supposed to write about. After discussing with other students in this course, I’m certainly not the only one either. Considering its not an essential core unit, save yourself the trouble (and extreme stress) and choose a different unit to put towards your psychology degree. Sincerely, a burnt-out PSYC3318 student

This unit was unlike any other psychology unit I have done before. If you want to do well it will require more than just doing the readings/lectures. David seems like a really great guy but I personally really struggled to follow the lectures. The experiment we had to do was kind of a mess too. If this unit doesn't align with your interests, or what you want to do with psychology then I would not recommend doing it.
