Reviews

The unit outline on UWA does not specify an exam but there are technically two though it's split into 20-30 between the mid sem and the end sem 'test'. On some weeks, there are a lot of content, on other weeks, sometimes only one page of notes were made. The textbook is not the best (in my opinion) and so the internet was used a couple of times but the tutors were really helpful and good in answering any questions. The tutors were fairly fast in answering their emails and answers any confusions really well. However, I do believe that if students go into this course without having SOME prior knowledge, it will be kind of hard to stay on track.

There is exam, do not be mistaken by the reviews, it is not easy if you do not have the prior knowledge. hence not a easy HD by any means please do learn your hangul before enrolling into this class as it is very fast paced. Mid Sem exam was tough, 30 questions in 45 mins you can barely finish the paper. while weekly quiz is 5 questions but 1.5hrs?? does not make sense.

This was a very good introduction to learning Korean, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in Korean culture. The first two weeks were spent on learning 한글 (Korean Alphabet), but if you take some time to learn it before the start of this unit then you would do yourself a massive favour. Afterwards, we learnt how to speak in the informal polite form of Korean for the remainder of the unit, including the present, past and future tenses. Each week we had to complete a homework exercise and an online quiz, both were generally easy to do well in. There were two multiple choice tests on LMS, comprising reading and listening, which were also fairly easy, but make sure you memorise all of the vocabulary and grammar. Finally we had an oral test via Zoom, which was ok. There was no exam in this unit which was a bonus. The tutorials were enjoyable and a good way to make friends. The lectures, which were recorded, were really short which was an advantage as they didn’t take up a lot of your time each week. Overall, highly recommend this unit as an easy HD and a good introduction to Korean.

Absolutely LOVED this unit. Have to say it was an easy unit as I had already learnt a bit of Korean on my own so most of what this unit covered, I had already known. But nevertheless, met my boyfriend in this class and made some really good friends whom I still see now, overall great! Would definitely recommend!

Easy pass if you put in the effort. The tutors are amazing and friendly. We always have a good laugh in the language classes. There is an oral presentation that you have to do in pairs or small groups, but don't be scared. Just use the vocabulary you've learned and it will be fine. If you familiarise yourself with the Korean alphabet before starting this unit it will definitely help.

Fairly interesting unit. Kindled my interest in Korean culture. First few weeks were terrifying, coming from a background where I didn't know any Asian language, but once you overcome this hurdle, the journey is satisfyingly good. Passionate lecturer. Overall would recommend if you're interested in learning a language!

Interesting unit!!! I enjoy every lectures throughout the semester. The best way of learning this unit is to be very concentrate in the lectures, speak along with the lecturers to get the correct pronunciation.. There will be a 15% oral presentation for this unit. You can use all of the vocabularies you've learnt in the lectures and act it out. good experience of acting while presenting. Enjoy as you go.. 모두 제일 좋다!
