The unit has changed a bit since 2019 (the latest review of it as I write this). 8% weekly quizzes (2/week), 42% learning journals (1/4 weeks), 30% Lab Report and 20% Journal Article Presentation. No exam still! The content of the unit to a degree was an extension of 2216 and was fairly interesting, however; there was no compulsion or push to get through the lecture content. I among many watched barely half the lectures as it wasn't necessary to complete the assessments, and because of it, we didn't feel like we gained much from the unit itself. The quizzes are straightforward and can do them in advance. The learning journals - 1 page/week and is talking about a lesson you have learned during the week (lecture content, workshop, lab, etc) and your reflection on that lesson. Submission occurs every 4 weeks, and markers will mark half of the submission. They take a surprisingly large amount of time to complete. The extra, unmarked work felt like a waste of time; working for work's sake, and the lack of objectivity for it is something I'm personally not happy about either. I believe they should mark all of it, or allow us to choose which two weeks to do lessons on. What wasn't great either was the time of marking. I understand the markers have a busy life, but putting marks out a few days before it was due isn't great, especially when feedback could completely change what you have done. It is a lot of unnecessary stress. The journal article presentation - placed in a large group and tasked to present a journal article. Pretty straightforward; like any other group assignment, make sure to stay on top of it and hope you're part of a good group. Cannot complain about it at all. The lab report was not great. You have the choice of a rat or endocrine lab and the result don't display anything new or important to gauge upon. It isn't examining the effects of certain substances - just a mere observation of weight and size. It felt pretty useless. The endocrine lab was online only, but the rat lab was in person and was pretty interesting at least. Lastly, though, there is no exam! More time to study for other units, which can never be a complaint. From my experience though, I wouldn't recommend this unit to others.

This unit has several components: 6% quiz, 24% weekly learning journals, 20% presentation, 20% lab report, 30% final essay. This unit has a lot of work, but it's highly justified because of the nature where there's no exams. The content learnt is extrapolated from ANHB2216 and you will find a lot of overlapping content. This unit takes it to the next level, you are required to apply concepts rather than regurgitate. I feel that this presents a problem for many because they are used to taking exams rather than writing lab reports/essays. The downside of the unit has to be the learning journal component as the previous writer has mentioned. You submit a weekly summary of either 1 of the 2 lectures each week (1 page length), however the huge issue is the random marking of 6 lectures rather than 12. For the lab report, there's a lot of subjectivity even though I use a peer-reviewed journal reference, I ended up under-referencing so you probably have to reference almost every sentence or two. Final essay is about animal models, that means you can't really use human examples, which adds a whole new different level of difficulty to it. Again, there's a lot of subjectivity Will recommend this unit if you really hate exams, because it will allocate more time for you to study for finals. Don't recommend if you expect objectivity in the assessments, hate writing in general. For me, this unit was worth it at the end.

This unit is so much work for basically no reward, and just for work's sake. Compared to the 2nd year version, there is very little content to learn and no exam, but don't think that makes it an easy unit. There are so many written assessments, and marking is quite subjective and changes based on who is doing it. You have to do a learning journal and write a page summary of a "lesson" each week to reflect on (so 12 pages total), and I did worse after acting on their criticisms and suggestions for improvement. What's worse is that you write 12, but they will only mark 6 randomly chosen ones, because it was "too much effort" marking all of them.

Fantastic content, varied assessments and great opportunity for interesting group projects.

Unit with varied assessment type and no exam, which helps those who don't necessarily excel with one lab report one exam type assessment. Read your comments thoroughly as they help you achieve better in the next lot of assessments. Very interesting content!
