Best accounting unit! Lyndie is a gem!

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2022

Best accounting unit by far. The unit coordinator is so organised and approachable, replying to emails quickly even at odd hours of the night, that it makes this unit so much easier. Lyndie is an absolute treasure and the best lecturer and unit coordinator I’ve ever had. very HDable.

Only read the newest reviews. I got 91% in this unit simply by watching lectures and by redoing the practice questions over and over again prior to tests and the final exam. I spent less than a week working on the research assignment and got top 10 in my cohort. Definitely HDable if you at least put in a bit of effort and knows the basic of accounting. If you get Lyndie as your unit coordinator, then you are good. Shoutout to the best accounting lecturer at UWA and so far, the only lecturer that I can get along with in the accounting department 😂

This was my last ever accounting unit. Lydnie was such a blessing to have. She would always make it such a warm and welcoming environment. Im not one to attend tutorials because I don't have the time, but I put hers on, and if you have the time to fully immerse yourself in a unit it certainly pays to attend. I probably would've done better if I had of watched the lectures, but most of the time the slides were 60+ long and we weren't marked on attendance. I messed up one of the online closed book tests badly and got like 34% and I noticed the average was 70% so that hit hard, but then the group tests are good because they are open book and you have 2 days. The assignment was exploring a concept not quite established in accounting standards so it was actually very relevant and you can tell Lyndie is interested in real life accounting. The final exam was easier than all my other units, however she really focused on some specific methods and I was a bit lost to when it came down to, for example, journal entries for superannuation. Not to say the exam was easy, but in comparison to LAWS1104, FINA3324 and FINA2205 it was the best. The unit also focuses on the new standard for Revenue, so if you have an old textbook it won't be of very much use, but I used the same textbook as into to fin accounting and company accounting in 2019 and financial statement analysis in 2020 and it has never failed me. I finished on 78% pre exam but the exam is worth 50%. Advice for anyone taking this unit: get yourself a textbook, the exam was open book and I only saw a few others in the exam room with it. It was nice to be able to refer to it and I used it for the assignment because it's hard to find journal entries online that are up to date and Australian. Also I know textbooks are expensive, but if you're doing FINA3302 next semester you'll use it then as well AND I think in the hallway to the business school common room there's a QR code to get a discount.

BEST ACCOUNTING UNIT AT UWA. No debate! First of all, Lyndie is a great lecturer. She is definitely the BEST accounting lecturer so far at UWA. I have taken all first year and second year accounting units, and the auditing unit as well. Lyndie explains things really well, a bit slow, but very clear in the end. Even if you still don't understand, don't hesitate to ask her to explain again. She is very approachable and also replies promptly to our emails. All her assessments were very clear and manageable. There were two individual LMS tests (one MCQ, one fully written) and two group LMS tests that were opened for 2 whole days (one MCQ, one fully written). They were all very easy if you follow her lectures and do the questions she provides. There was a research assignment that was also quite straightforward and HDable. Remember, if you are not sure about something, just email Lyndie or ask in the discussion board. I just finished my exam today. The exam itself was a bit tricky and had some confusing questions, but overall, it was still manageable. It was open book, so you can bring any hard copy materials. She also excluded some stuff from the exam and let you know beforehand, so you don't have to study everything! Overall, 5 stars. Definitely the best accounting unit so far at UWA. Not the easiest, but the BEST. HDable if you put in the effort.

Pretty hard unit. Very theoretical rather then practical (financial statements etc).

I learned a lot of valuable accounting information from this unit, so I really enjoyed it. The unit is fairly easy if you keep practising the tutorial questions. It also helps if you have the textbook/eBook for the assignment. Lyndie is a great lecturer and person, and I love her motivational words. Keep calm and practise accounting everyone :)
