When:
16 September, 2016

Location:
Medical Student Common Room (G46, Anatomy Dept UWA)

Organised by:
Western Australia Medical Students Society (WAMSS)

WAMSS invites all students to attend the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) drive. This drive aims to increase the numbers listed on the Australian bone marrow registry. You can join the registry if you are aged between 18 and 45 years, in good health and meet the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria is listed at http://www.abmdr.org.au/eligibility-criteria/ To join, you need to live in Australia and be prepared to donate anonymously to any patient anywhere in the world.

Process:
Registration is simply a 10-15min session whereby you are informed about the details of registering and then saliva sample is taken.
You are not allowed to eat or drink 30 minutes prior to the saliva sample test. Once you have completed the forms the ABMDR won't usually contact you unless you are identified as a potential match for a patient. The process of donation will be explained to you when you attend the session.

If you do ever match with a recipient there is a lengthy process you have to follow (and always have a choice to donate or not) so come along and register as you could potentially save a life!!!

If you have any questions these will be answered too. Please check out the ABMDR website http://www.abmdr.org.au/
