Bluestocking Week Festivities

Bluestocking Week is annual celebration, run jointly through the NTEU National Tertiary Education Union and National Union of Students, that promotes the achievements of women in higher education and recognises the barriers currently facing women accessing higher education. This year's theme is "Storylines", which encourages women to share their stories and experiences with each other.
The UWA Student Guild Women's Department has organised a variety of events to celebrate BSW, and a number of Faculty Societies are also hosting their women-orientated events during this week as well:
// KNIT IN WITH THE NTEU //
On Tuesday 11th August, from 12 - 2PM, the NTEU UWA Branch is kindly hosting women students and staff in their office (10 -12 Parkway, beside the Science Library) for a 'Knit-In' for a domestic violence banner. BYO lunch, FREE hot chocolate provided.
**This event is only open to women or people who experience current oppression as a woman**
\\ WOMEN IN MATHEMATICS BBQ \\
The UWA Mathematics Union is hosting a BBQ in the Mathematics Courtyard at 1PM on Tuesday August 11th to allow women in mathematics to mingle and network. This event is open to people of all genders. For more information go to - Women in Mathematics Barbecue
\\ WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE BREAKFAST \\
SNAGS is hosting their annual Women in Agriculture Breakfast at 7:15AM on Wednesday 12th August. Speakers include Hon. Mia Davis MLA. Tickets are $25 for students and more information can be found here - UWA SNAGS- Celebrating Women in Agriculture Breakfast
// WOMEN OF COLOUR IN HIGHER ED DISCUSSION //
The Women of Colour Collective will be hosting a discussion with kay academic figures at UWA on their experiences as Women of Colour in the higher education sector. Come to the Law LT at 12PM on Wednesday 12th August to hear from Professor Krishna Sen, Dean of Arts, and Professor Samina Yasmeen AM.
// OAK LAWN STALL //
The Women's Department will be holding a stall on Oak Lawn from 12 - 2PM on Wednesday 12th August to promote Bluestocking Week. We will have FREE fairy floss, banner-painting, and information about influential women in academia and higher education. Come down to hear more about the legacy of women at UWA and the barriers that many women still face.
Everyone is encouraged to wear 'blue stockings' or 'blue bottoms' throughout the week.
