UTS Debating Society Easters Trials 2016
5 March, 2016
UTS: University of Technology Sydney
UTS Debating Society (UTS DebSoc)
WHAT IS EASTERS?
Easters is the Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships and is the biggest debating competition in Australia. It consists of 6 rounds of 3v3 debating over two days, and at the conclusion of the 6th round the top 16 teams at the tournament will progress to a final series of knockabout debates all the way to the grand final.
Easters is a novice competition, which means atleast 2/3 of each team must be novices (people who have attended less than two Easters AND less than one Australs AND less than one Worlds). If you are new to debating you are a novice!
It is an amazing time and you make so many new friends from both UTS and other universities.
WHEN AND WHERE IS EASTERS?
Easters is held at a different university each year, (last year we hosted it at UTS!). This year it will be held by Melbourne University from the 27th-31st of March.
HOW MUCH DOES EASTERS COST?
To attend as either a debater or an adjudicator, the cost of Easters will be $235.00. For this price you get 4 nights in Melbourne, almost all meals catered for, amazing socials with lots of alcohol as well as a UTS DebSoc t-shirt to wear proud!
HOW DO I GET TO HAVE SUCH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE?
To attend as either a debater or adjudicator you will have to participate in trials on the 5th-6th of March.
You will speak in atleast two trial debates and based on your performance you will be ranked and sorted into teams to maximize your opportunity to enjoy and improve debating. You will given a topic and asked to debate as you normally would.
Each team will have a Pro (someone who is not a novice) to help guide and develop your debating abilities!
We will have an external trial adjudicator to trial you and provide detailed feedback on how you can improve for the future!
