UTS: University of Technology Sydney

Organised by:
Debating Society (DebSoc)

Hello team!

Trials will be held on the weekend of the 7th-8th of May, 2016.

Australs is the Australsian Intervarsity Debating Championships, a tournament of eight rounds in Australs style (3v3 with reply speeches)

This year it is being held in Perth, WA and you can follow the link to their event page here:

There are no pro/novice requirements for Australs which does mean it will be a highly competitive tournament and the trial process will likely reflect this.

In saying that, if you are interested in trialling as a debater or an adjudicator you will need to keep free the weekend of the 7th and 8th of May, 2016.

The trial adjudicator will be Dominic Guinane.

Debater Trials: All trialling debaters will have to participate in at least two (2) trial debates. The teams, speaking positions and motions will be allocated by the external trial adjudicator who will then rank the trialling debaters based on their performance.

Adjudictor Trials: All trialling adjudicators will be required to watch a debate, prepare notes and an adjudication. Whether the debate is live or recorded is to the discretion of the external trial adjudicator. They will then be interviewed by the external trial adjudicator and ranked based on their performance.
