This course was very qualitative until the final weeks. In these last few weeks, we went through some heavier mathematics. Overall it was quite an enjoyable course and was a good starting point into the world of statistics.

The unit was improved but still taught quite confusingly. As the first cohort going through the new syllabus, there weren't many resources available for studying other than the textbook and whatever questions Michael Stewart put solutions up for. Quizzes and assignments were pretty easy to get full marks. Final examination was similar to the suggested questions Michael Stewart put up but often the questions for written confusingly, meaning that you would lose many marks if you did not know what the examiners were looking for. Probably more worthwhile doing another unit if possible.

Three words to summarise this unit. Fuck Michael Stewart. His lecture notes are a total nightmare, in lecture he covers content at an incredibly fast pace and skims over examples so quickly that you don't have the time to properly understand it. The quizzes were an almost exact copy of the practice quizzes with only a few questions with changed numbers (Lazy!) so most of our cohort was at a perfect 100% for quizzes by the final. However, the final exam was very tricky, many questions involving things very briefly covered in the lectures. AVOID THIS UNIT IF POSSIBLE. Pick MATH1005 or Discrete Math or some other unit where possible.

Good introduction to stats, but taught in a confusing manor.

Good intro to statistics, interesting content but often confusingly taught

Statistics gets a bad rap, and it's not altogether underserved. That being said, this course in particular was an excellent primer on the subject, and the advanced level material was quite interesting.
