Average subject that failed to really analyse areas of genetics with any real depth.

I did the Advanced version of the unit, GEGE2901, which is the same as the Mainstream version except for the Presentation assessment. The problems mentioned about this unit in the past seem to have been fixed because there didn't seem to be any major problems relating to the unit's organisation. The lectures were insightful and comprehensive. Familiar topics from high school or first year such as inheritance, dominant/recessive alleles, gene linkage, and population genetics were covered in more depth while new topics such as genome sequencing, genetic screens, and horizontal gene transfer were introduced. The lectures catered to students from a wide variety of fields. The applications of genetics and genomics were covered for areas such as the medical sciences (finding causative genes/mutations in disease), conservation biology (using population genetics to identify vulnerable populations), and the agricultural and veterinary sciences. The practical course was particularly enjoyable with the tasks being designed to consolidate the concepts taught in lectures. The Advanced component of the unit, the presentation assessment, was another highlight which involved students working in groups to design a treatment for a chosen genetic disorder using CRISPR gene editing.

Really poorly organised, assessments are unclear and any details you are given are usually late. No one answered student questions. Also labs were slow and generally took twice as long as they needed to.
