A nice follow-on from CHEM1001. The concepts learnt in CHEM1002 are definitely more challenging however probably not as well explained as the concepts learnt in CHEM1001. The course is structured similar to CHEM1001 which is great for learning.

interesting subject!

Great course. Key is to learn underlying concepts that will help you answer any question coming your way! Do not fall behind in this course though, would be impossible to catch up

Another great CHEM subject. First year CHEM at USyd is exceptionally good. The two halves of this course don't complement each other super well, but it's important to do well in both of them! Organic chemistry is something that a lot of students hate, but it's presented in a very simple and approachable manner here. If you stay on top of it, you will find you do well. If you fall behind it's going to take a lot more effort to catch up. #1 Tip: If you're studying for the GAMSAT, this is the number one first year subject to nail. Take phenomenal notes, because they will save your life if you want to get into Medicine! #2 Tip (for those not sitting GAMSAT): Don't be overwhelmed by OChem. There's a lot there, but you won't be tested on it for a while. Give yourself a few weeks to let it all sink in, and you'll be a lot more comfortable by the time the first quiz rolls around.

The best thing about Chem1002 was the experiments they used to do at the start of the lecture. The worst thing about Chem1002 was that some of the lab instructors did not speak loudly or clearly so it was hard to follow their instructions. Overall a good subject. I looooved the organic chemistry part. Some of the lecture material I found boring, such as that about thermodynamics.

There is a lot of route learning and memorising in this course (organic chem), however, it becomes obvious in 2nd year science subjects why this is a core unit. Keep up to date with the material and do a zillion past exam questions throughout the semester and you'll be A-ok.

Very well taught course and easy to do well, however a majority of the course is organic chem, and if that's not your thing then it's not so great.
