Reviews

Extremely content heavy subject but very rewarding at the end if you survive through it. Extremely interesting material but the lecturers aren't too great.

Very content heavy to be prepared to rote learn a lot! Same difficulty as BIOL1003, because you do the same work, only difference is the personal project, that I think they mark relatively generously. The individual project makes it a little more tailored to your personal interests. Labs are boring, there is too much to do in the time you have, but nothing that you learn in the lab can't be learnt from the textbook.

I really enjoyed the course content, even though there was a pretty big amount to learn. Advanced was definitely worth it for the extra experience and smaller groups. Definitely do advanced over normal - same lecture content but with an extra seminar series that are quite interesting (you don't really have to go to them) and an extra essay but they seemed to mark it nicely so advanced is a great way to boost your grades.

There is a ton of content to remember, more than some other first year science courses, and much of it is not taught in the lectures. The lectures are nonetheless very useful. I hear the SSP stream does some really exciting things, unlike the Advanced labs which I found quite boring.
