When:
2 December, 2016

Location:
Carslaw 175 - University of Sydney

Organised by:
University of Sydney Union Debating

Going to Worlds? Want to finish off the semester with some cheap wine and thai food? Like tournaments that have two names for no discernible reason? Love answering rhetorical questions in event descriptions? Come to Sydney Mini, also known as the Australian British Parliamentary Debating Championships!

Despite its (short) name, Sydney Mini is the biggest and most competitive tournament the USU hosts all year, and is the premier BP tournament in Australia. It’s also a great way to get some practice in if you’re in a Worlds team, and to soak in the architectural marvel that is the Carslaw Building before you’re surrounded by all of the unimpressive old buildings in The Hague.

The winners will receive the adoration of the people forever, and a shoutout on the USU Debating Society Facebook page. They will also receive an actual physical trophy, that we will promptly take back from them for storage (we also wheel this joke out from storage every year). They will also receive an invitation to compete in the HWS “Tournament of Champions” Round Robin.

CHIEF ADJUDICATORS

Sydney Mini will be CA'd by Angud Chawla, Jessy Wu & Nick Chung. See the posts in the discussion section for their acheivements and some top quality jokes.

REGISTRATION

Register here: https://goo.gl/forms/r0vSOcdzeAI2I4M52

Both members of your team need to register INDIVIDUALLY for your registration to be complete. Registration will close at midnight on Monday the 28th of November.

Payment is $70 for each debater and $40 for adjudicators. Because the USU is #innovative and ahead of the times, registration will be payable via bank transfer (like every other society does already) to the following account:

Account Name: USU Debating Society
BSB: 062284
Account Number: 1047 0129

Please include your first initial, last name & 'mini' in the description (e.g. swhitemini)

We’ll be imposing a $5 penalty for Australian participants who fail to bank transfer us registration by MIDNIGHT THURSDAY 1ST OF DECEMBER. Participants from outside of Australia are exempt because international money transfers are annoying, and no-one should be forced to deal with them. Everyone will be subject to an additional $5 penalty for paying after round 2 though, which will increase to a $10 penalty on day 2. If you haven’t paid by the silent round we will cut your team from the tab. #soznotsoz. That’s an $85 rego cost for an Australian who pays on day 2. Don’t be that person (though it will increase the Sunday bar tab).

We are able to offer a limited number of registration waivers for individuals who would like to attend but cannot due to financial reasons. Please contact either Kevin Lee or Libby Johnstone if you would like to know more.

NOTE: we reserve the right to impose n/2 on institutions if we need more judges
