SUUNS continues our explosive line of events with our first speaker event of the year, with special guest The Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG.
A jurist, academic and Australia's longest serving High Court judge, The Hon Michael Kirby currently leads the UN Commission of Inquiry into Human Rights in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. In addition to this, The Hon Michael Kirby is a member of the UN Secretary-General's High Level Panel on Health Technologies in the global pursuit for effective public health strategies.
Having been a continued advocate of human rights and equal representation before the law, The Hon Michael Kirby from 1989-92 was a Commissioner of the inaugural WHO Global Commission on AIDS. During the 1990s, he served on the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee and on the Ethics Committee of the Human Genome Organisation and was the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Human Rights in Cambodia. Since 2003, he has been a member of the UNAIDS Expert Panel on AIDS and Human Rights and in 2015 was appointed to the Equitable Access Initiative of the Global Fund of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
