Join Parramatta Amnesty for Freedom Stories and support our call to increase Australia's refugee intake!

Parramatta Amnesty will host a screening of the film Freedom Stories on Wednesday, 14th September to raise awareness of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia, highlighting both their struggles and triumphs in the lead up to the UN Summit.
The screening will be followed by a panel of activists, slam poetry performance and refugee speaker.

Amnesty’s global refugee campaign will launch on 18 September, the day before the UN Summit. Activists around the world are preparing to work together to create a moment at the UN Summit that our world leaders can’t ignore.

We are calling on the Australian Government to:
• Settle at least 30,000 people escaping war and persecution in Australia each year, prioritising those selected by the UN Refugee agency.

• Prioritise refugees in other migration programs (skilled migration program, student and family reunion visas etc)

About Freedom Stories:

Freedom Stories is a documentary based project that brings together a collection of personal stories from former asylum seekers who sought asylum in Australia at a time of great political turmoil circa 2001, but who have long since dropped out of the media spotlight. The people who have participated in our project are all now Australian citizens. Given the ongoing controversies over ‘boat people’ it is timely that their stories be heard.
