Reviews
A strong component of the biomedical science degree. Lots of really interesting content, however can sometimes get overwhelming. Still a very enjoyable course, and very helpful for later study.

A very content-heavy but enjoyable course!
Anonymous, Semester 2, 2018
A lot of content, and it could get quite confusing at times. I found that having to complete the lab reports within 48 hours was a bit intense as well. The content itself was interesting, but required a lot of hard work and effort to get a good grade.

Content heavy as a first year student, however once you understand the concepts, memorization and studying becomes much easier. Loved this course! Great introductory course for physiology!

Absolutely loved this course. Course load is demanding but thoroughly enjoyable. Teaching staff were amazing.

Really good course, although the hurdles can make for an interesting time. All the lecturers are excellent, and can communicate their extensive knowledge in a clear and concise manner.

While this course was very content heavy, it was laid out in a way that allowed you to integrate all the concepts you learnt to gain a deeper understanding and apply your knowledge to different situations!

Biol 1040 is well-structured and give you lots of training on the aspects of communication, report writing and practical skills. However, since it's very content-heavy, much time will be required in this course.

This is a great entry level course into human physiology. Yes, it can be quite overwhelming or daunting at times. The workload is intense, but if you keep up with the content, the course will set you up very well for further studies in the biomed area. This course introduces a general overview of the major systems in the body. Assessment is also heavily focused on building skills in the area of scientific report writing and research - which will prove to be invaluable if you stick with it!

Despite the stigma around BIOL1040, I found it thoroughly enjoying to study because the content was holistic and fascinating. As someone who didn't attend lectures, the compulsory workshops were a pain in the ass because I wasn't up-to-date with the content and therefore didn't learn much in those classes.
