C-Walk with Loïc
16 September, 2016
The Dance Works
UQ Street Groove Hip Hop Urban Dance Society
Dance Style: C-Walk
Location: The Dance Works (19 BURKE STREET, WOOLLOONGABBA 4102)
Date: Friday 16/9/16
Time: 7:00pm – 8:15pm (+ Freestyle Jam)
Dress Code: Something you can comfortably dance in!
This Friday we have Loïc in the studio to run an introductory class on C-walking!! About a third to half of the class will be spent learning basic moves, and the rest of the session will be used to put them together to a fun routine.
C-walk is predominantly non-choreographed, so it is recommended you try combining moves together in your own time following this class, to start developing your own skills and style. The Crip Walk, also known as the C-Walk, is a dance move that originated in the early 1970s by Crip gang members from the South Central Los Angeles area, and has since spread worldwide. The clown/crown walk, which is what will be taught this class, is a street style that derives from the original Crip Walk and consists primarily of intricate footwork, and is without gang affiliation. We look forward to seeing you all there!

### GETTING TO THE STUDIO ###
From UQ lakes, catch the 29, 139, 169, 209 or 66 two stations to Boggo Road busway station. Walk 2 minutes to the studio. Go up the stairs at the back of the entry level. Winning.
Alternatively, keep an eye out for our walking school bus on Friday
======| WHO IS LOIC |======
Loïc has been c-walking on and off since December 2011, learning through YouTube tutorials. C-walk was his first experience dancing, but since late 2014 he has branched out into other hip-hop/street styles, becoming a talented member of the Street Groove performance crew and executive team.
Loïc has uploaded videos since he first began C-walking. As a constant reminder of what can come with long-term, half-arsed effort :P , he has made the mistake of not deleting his earlier videos, which painfully document the unflattering years of his teenage life, as well as his bumbling failures in dance.
Here are two of his newer videos, he still isn't all that great :P :
======| FREESTYLE JAMS |======
One whole class just isn’t enough?? Well stick around afterwards and join us for freestyle jams until 9pm. It’s open for everyone to attend, Street Groove member or not, so come along, chill out and have a good time. Learn new dance techniques from one another and practice at your own pace to some funky beats. The jams so far have been off the charts!
