Come join the University of Queensland Big Band students & alumni as they showcase the music they’ll perform in Los Angeles, San Diego and New York in 2016.
Enjoy a two-course dinner and an evening of live jazz from our 26-piece big band featuring vocalists Isabella Anderson, Alexandra Godbold and Geordie McGrath! The band will be playing three massive sets featuring charts from Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone,The Brecker Brothers, Louis Jordan, Kristen Berardi, Gordon Goodwin and more. Special auction items and raffles will run on the night.

The UQ Big Band is comprised of 26 students & alumni from a diverse range of faculties (Engineering, Law, Medicine, Architecture, Music, Economics, Humanities) within the University of Queensland who share a common interest of jazz in all forms. Directed by Churchill Fellowship recepient, Clint Allen and managed by Brazilian jazz researcher, Dr Peter Freeman, the band aims to explore modern developments in jazz in the context of its historical roots. In 2015 they have been joined for artistic development by Australian artists John Morrison (drums) and Craig Martin (vocals).

4-16 April 2016 Los Angeles – San Diego – New York
The UQ Big Band will work with some of the world’s best jazz musicians including Grammy award winning saxophonist Bob Mintzer, member of the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra Victor Goines, renowned trumpeter Randy Brecker, and Gordon Goodwin, leader of LA’s most exciting big band jazz ensemble, Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. Highlights also include performing at Carnegie Hall and concerts at Disneyland, Central Park and LA Jazz Clubs.
