Let's #BLEEDTHEGONGDRY

The Vampire Cup is a blood donation drive organised by Australian Medical Students' Association (AMSA) and the Australian Red Cross Blood Service. It is also called the Red25 Health Students Blood Challenge. Every year, medical schools in Australia race each other to raise not only blood donations but also the awareness of regular blood donation. This campaign is open to non-medical students, staff, friends and families and we really encourage their participation.

Last year in 2015, Wollongong bounced from the bottom to the 4th Highest Percentage of Medical School. In fact, we had 218.2% increase in donations from 2014 and came First Runner Up to the Most Improved University. This was amazing, guys, but we are not settling for second best.

WE ARE GOING TO BLEED THE GONG DRY THIS TIME

DONATE
- Whole Bloods can be donated every 3 months only but takes only 15 minute to donate
- Plasma can be donated every fortnight (best option)
- Platelets can be donated every 2-4 weeks (encouraged)
More on donation types: http://www.donateblood.com.au/learn#types-of-donation

PLASMA and PLATELETS
After consulting staff at Wollongong Donor Centre, we would like to encourage PLASMA and PLATELET donations for friends who had given blood before in the past two years.
These donations are particularly used for immune system conditions, pregnancy, leukaemia (particularly during chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants), liver disease and more. Plasma can be donated every 2-3 weeks. Platelets can be donated every 2-4 weeks.

Nominate your blood donation to the Wollongong University Medical Students' Society - WUMSS tally simply by quoting #WUMSS #BLEEDTHEGONGDRY at time of booking and to receptionists. Entries are welcomed at all Australian Red Cross Blood Service Centres, anytime during 25 July-19 September.
