Reviews

Lecturer was great, tutor was the best! But you really need to keep up with the material because if you don't you will start getting blown away when bank reconciliation statements hit.

A little dull. Tutorials weren't very useful

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2016

Great class. Really insightful and teaches you the basics of accounting and finance. It's a skill that will help immensely in the future as a business student. Also relatively easy and not hard to do well once you've understood the initial concepts.

Interesting

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2014

I loved this course for some unknown reason; it's really not too hard if you keep up with the tutorial questions. Lectures are slightly boring but it's worthwhile if you have a good tutor :)

Coming from a non mathematics based background (not completing maths in high school) i found acct extremely challenging. Its easy to get overwhelmed, so make sure you stay on top of the lecture work and review your notes.

ACCT1501 is a great subject as it gives you an insight and basic info in learning accounting. Though the lectures are quite dry and boring, it is not difficult to get a high grade if you really understand the content and have done your tutorial homework. It's all about practising and understanding the questions and the content!

Accounting 1A is not the most enjoyable course by far, but it is a course where you can easily do well in if you learn the content, and do the right work. The content itself is very dry, and the lectures are astoundingly boring, but it's not that hard to understand at all. To do well in the course, do the tutorial homework, past papers (as they basically use same format questions every year) and make friends with the right people who have the resources to make the online quizzes and perdisco a lot easier... Anyway, rather than reading the textbook and lectures, I personally found that actually using and doing the study guide taught me everything more effectively. Also, the lecturers are pretty awful. Hard to understand, don't explain things very well and will probably put you to sleep. Luckily I got a pretty good tutor which made tutorials much more bearable. Besides all the negative things I've said, one thing I do like about Accounting is that the questions/marking are not subjective, as there is generally one clear answer. Overall, you'll probably dislike the course, but it's very possible to do well in it, especially given there's very little group work and limited subjectivity in marking.
