The US elections have thrown up two of the most controversial candidates in decades: Donald Trump from the right and Bernie Sanders from the left. This phenomenon reflects the deep economic and political crisis in the US. The situation raises many questions and possibilites for politics and movements in one of the most important countries in the world.

Joel Geier has been active in the US socialist movement since the 1960s. He is an associate editor of the International Socialist Review, and has written on many topics, including world crisis, Marxist economics, social movements, and the soldier's rebellion during the Vietnam War.
