VSA @ UNSW - R U OK? DAY
10 September, 2015
Science Theater Lawn UNSW
Vietnamese Student Association
Mental health is still quite a taboo topic in the Vietnamese community.
Often, those experiencing poor mental health feel disconnected from others and try to endure their pain themselves so as to not be a burden on others.
We want to help make it known that it is okay to confide in others! It is okay to talk about your mental well being!
R U OK? Day is a day that is dedicated to reminding individuals to ask their family, friends and colleagues the question, "R U OK?”.
A simple question can go a long way in making a difference to anyone who might be struggling with their mental health. It is a reminder that there are people out there that care. It is a reminder that they are not alone.
Did you know that in Australia, a WHOPPING 45% of Australians experience mental health issues in their lifetime?
Did you know that....
Every 10 minutes, an attempt on a life is made.
Every day, 250 people plan their suicide.
Every day, 1000 people think about suicide.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44. Almost twice as many people die from suicide than in road related transport deaths.
That's why, this year, VSA UNSW want to engage with youths and raise awareness to help the 65,000 Australians that attempt suicide in Australia.
But we cannot do it alone, we need your support!!
Our friends from UNSW STUDENT MINDS will also be joining us! :D
