Definitely content heavy but the organisation has improved and definitely possible to get a high score (scored a 95). MST1 was MCQ and pretty manageable since it was open book this year, but questions did get very specific (e.g. need to memorise the types of cytokines, etc.). MST2 the average was very low (around 40%) but mainly because people got the wrong idea with the essay. If you structure with a whole detailed paragraph on each of the elements they ask you to include then you'll score fine. Exam was very manageable and similar to the MSTs so a good opportunity to learn from mistakes. Felt very overwhelmed with content during the inflammation modules, and later during the immune-mediated diseases modules, but the lecture content definitely got easier over time as I started to become more familiar with all the pathology terminology. It's a great introduction to the subject and honestly felt like I learnt a lot. ALSO did this subject alongside MIIM and Biochem. Doing it alongside MIIM20001 definitely helped since there was a lot of overlap in the immunology content, and the BCMB20001 helped with the genetic diseases and cancer units. The subjects complement each other really nicely so highly recommend

Subject content excellent, very engaging. I found the workload and exam content appropriately difficult, however it could have benefited by improved structure to the subject and content delivered. There was sometimes overlap between the content taught by different lecturers which seemed a waste. My major flaw however was the complete lack of useful feedback from the MSTs. Instead of providing the questions, and which questions you got wrong in feedback, you were given which learning outcomes each question was designed to test, which was essentially useless. You had to email the coordinator to arrange a zoom call to actually review the questions, a waste of everybody's time.

Very, very badly organized. Some random days throughout the semester there would be online zoom classes and no lectures. Some weeks you have different lecturers that contradict each other with the information provided. Other weeks there would be no lectures at all and instead, you are expected to complete online modules. Even if you keep up with the subject timetable, it's difficult to understand what is expected of you each week or how much depth you should know for each topic due to varying information provided in the modules vs. by the lecturers. If you don't go to the in-person lectures, there is 0 interaction with other students as there are no real tutorials. It's a shame because the content was interesting.

This subject was so interesting as it was an amalgamation of many different disciplines. It could have been coordinated better, but overall I was happy with the H1 I achieved. Definitely have to keep up with the large work load.

The content was really interesting, it's a shame that its kind of poorly coordinated. We never got instructor answers on Piazza, we always got assessments back weeks after we were told we were going to and there's way too many lecturers... there was no reason to have 3 different lecturers for the immunology block. I think all in all it was around 10 different lecturers for 4 main blocks, so do with that what you will. Also the MSTs were ridiculous... 30 MCQ in 30 min is insane, especially considering most questions gave us long and detailed medical backstory. My advice for everyone taking this is keep up every week and make sure you keep an eye on the details, that's how you get the H1. I'd say its pretty easy to get 70-75 by just paying attention to the main concepts of lectures, but if you want 80+, you need to be on top of morphology, examples and details because they will get asked on the exam. I also recommend to buy a second hand textbook (even though you get a free copy online), it honestly made life so much easier, def worth the money cause it helped consolidate a lot of information that we got from different lecturers. Overall, I don't regret taking this subject, like I said it's really interesting if you're interested in human disease, but like others said, it's really, I mean really, content heavy and very broad. I would say its good prep for med school. So if you're into that or interested in disease, go for it, but go in prepared and motivated.

Really enjoyed this subject and the lecturer provided good slides with most of the information required on it :) Made me continue studying pathology for future years!

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2017

super content-heavy, you have to be really hard working to obtain a good grade for this subject. one of the lecturers have poor lectures though.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2018

Overall, an interesting subject and a good introduction to pathology! There is a lot of information and most of the time, you're left wondering on what is important or not. This was the main issue.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2019

Very interesting but content heavy, though the content not overly difficult if you stay on top of everything. Whilst the MSTs and first two sections of the exam were fairly straightforward the essay section of the exam was very harshly marked leaving a majority of students disappointed with their end result as it didn't reflect the effort they put in and level of knowledge they possessed

Assessment was fair and the content was interesting, but the subject was poorly coordinated and badly taught. Lecturers read straight off slides that had way more information than needed for assessment, so very easy to get overwhelmed and zone out. 90% of the class stopped going to tutorials and lecturers, so there is very little engagement with fellow students. Pretty disappointing overall.
