Reviews

Ting is a good lecturer who is very keen to help out and ensure everyone understands what is going on. Content is pretty straightforward and although the notation may be a bit confronting at the start once you are used to it, it is fine. As long as you keep on top of the content the questions tend to be pretty straightforward

Christine is an amazing lecturer and the subject really is a great introduction to multivariable calculus. I feel like the only think lacking is the rigour in the proofs, but since doing this subject a new advanced stream is available, so if that fits you I'd totally go for it!

The subject surveys the key ideas in multivariable and vector calculus which is very useful in areas of applied mathematics, physics, mathematical physics and engineering. The course slowly builds to the 4 integral theorem which ties everything up beautifully. Christine Manglesdorf handles the subject very well and her explanations are clear. Vector Calculus follows the style of calculus 2 and linear algebra, where you get a set of partial lecture notes and you fill in the gaps during the lecture. However, the subject is somewhat lacking in rigour and difficulty especially for those with a strong analysis background.

Fantastic subject, felt like an extension of Calc 2. Christine is an amazing lecturer, and the content was interesting.

Extremely useful subject for many areas of maths and science. The basic concepts of divergence, curl, scalar fields and spherical coordinates pop up all the time in my research in quantum chemistry. It got a bit hard towards the end, but you'll be fine as long as you attend every lecture and revise regularly. (P.S. I took this subject in semester 2, 2013, but that doesn't appear in the drop-down menu, so I'll select semester 1, 2017, which is the oldest option available.)

This is one of the best maths subjects I've taken in this semester expanded upon MAST10006 CALCULUS 2 and a little of Linear Algebra MAST10007. Got a H2B in this semester I recommend coming to consultations and practise a lot of exam papers, complete all tutorials, assessments, lectures and other material to help you. Overall, the recent exam paper has more than half the questions were remixed and builds up the complexity unlike past exams. If you love mathematics this is the subject for you.

Christine is the best, really enjoyable subject which comes all together in the end.

This is an incredible subject! Very well coordinated and you learn lots of different integration techniques that are useful in real life applications!

This has definitely been my favourite subject so far. This subject starts off quite light, beginning with limits, continuity and derivatives of multi-variable scalar functions as well as some other topics such as Taylor series. Later it moves on to the meat of the subject- gradient, curl and divergence (differentiation), and line, surface, volume integrals (integration). These concepts are combined at the end with various Vector Calculus theorems, before finally quickly covering curvilinear coordinates which has applications, among others, in physics. This subject, when I did it in 2016 Semester 1, has 3 lectures and a tutorial each week. They are definitely worth attending- only half of the slides are recorded on Lecture Capture, unfortunately, and that was a problem for me as I could only attend one lecture per week due to clashes. My lecturer was very engaged and easy to understand (in spite of an accent) and this really helped me when trying to follow him while listening on Lecture Capture. This subject has four assignments (5% each), each handed out a week before due date, as well as an end of semester exam. Don't forget to learn all the definitions and statements, particularly of the theorems (like Stokes' Theorem)
