Reviews

This was an excellent subject with very interesting content. We covered various applications of mathematics to biological contexts including genetics, chemical reactions and infectious diseases. The lecturer explained concepts very clearly, and the interactive nature of tutorial classes was also beneficial. The assignments and exam were not too difficult either. Overall, I highly enjoyed this subject.

By far my favourite subject so far in my degree. It was really interesting and fun! The lecturer was nice, and the tutorials really helped set the scene for the assignments. The one challenging thing was the exam! It was nothing like the assignments, and very much focused on the theory and application, rather than the math itself. It is important to understand the concepts rather than just regurgitate the math. It is quite a lot, so you need to keep up and make sure you do all of the practice questions you are given... Though, if you are looking for an interesting subject I would recommend

Overall, it’s kinda different from what you’ve known about math in high school. The content is not very heavy and the mentors are very nice. Make sure to attend all the tutorials (although they’re not required), you can definitely get a 70+

Won't be useful to you in any way in the future, but it's an interesting subject. However, it will get really complicated towards the end, and the exam got much harder due to the syllabus updates.

This was the most interesting subject I have done so far. It is almost all application based and such a rewarding subject. Keeping up with the content could pose a challenge, however I found it to be rewarding. The final exam was easy.

This subject was quite interesting and fairly easy to do well in if you kept up with the content. The exam is pretty straight forward and the weekly assignments were mainly to consolidate the lecture content from the week before.

I found this subject to be quite an interesting combination of mathematics and biomedical science. The fact that you are applying the mathematics you learn, to real situations in the setting of biomedical science, made this subject a rewarding one. Tutorials were great, well organised with practice questions, assignments and discussions that ultimately help you prepare for the exam.

Yikes. I thought I liked genetics and maths.

This subject is all about applying techniques and skills, you don't have to be exceptional at maths to do well. The content is very abstract, and will most likely be brand new to everyone. The maths involved has important applications and is entirely relevant to Biomedicine, which I appreciated. However, the lecturers spend so much time deriving really tricky and scary looking equations, don't be intimidated by this as it's not required for the exam. The weekly assignments are a bit tedious but are excellent resources along with tutorial sheets and exercise sheets. My advice would be make sure you do well in the assignments, as the exam was quite challenging.
