Too much content with too little time, the concepts could be explained in more detail. Assignments are also quite hard, I do not recommend to anyone if you are not planning to major in politics...

Interesting content, but there is a lot of it for a relatively short amount of time. Recommend for people planning to major in politics. Definitely do the readings as there are a lot of theoretical concepts! My tutor was really nice.

A lot of content to keep track of so I would advise continual revision to maintain an understanding. I found it very interesting and the tutes were relatively engaging but I would say that it is kind of hard to do well in the subject unless you engage really well with readings. Overall but there is probably more work involved than other classes and I would not consider it a WAM booster, but I would still recommend! This is also coming from someone who did not do a single reading.

The content for this subject was really theoretical with few real world applications. There was a lot of work every week with there being 2 lectures on different topics and 2-3 readings. The readings were really heavy readings and difficult to process and read, therefore requiring a lot of effort and time to read them. The tutorials often discuss the readings in detail, so it is definitely not a subject where you can skip the readings. The assignments were okay to do, I personally had some difficulty with structuring the essays, but this was easily resolved with asking my tutor for help. The tutorial discussions are interesting and engaging and I found that my tutor gave us a variety of activities to do throughout the semester ranging from debates, brainstorms, critical comparisons and group discussion. I found that the take-home exam was quite easy to do, they give you a reasonable amount of time to do it and the structure of 2 short answer questions and a short essay was do able, if you pick questions that play to your strengths in the subject. If you are not from a politics background, some of the concepts and theories can be quite abstract, and they start to blend together after a while. The textbook was useful in achieving a base understanding of different concepts. Do not buy the textbook, it can be found online for free with a little bit of googling. Unless you are taking this subject as a requirement for your major/minor I wouldn't recommend it as it was content-heavy and hard to score well on the assignments, but overall not too bad.

Recommended only for those who major in politics, otherwise your WAM could be ruined. This is the lowest score among my four subjects this semester. I studied very hard but only got 72 (H2B). You can learn a lot from this subject and there’s a lot of content.

Really interesting subject, a great starting point if you want to continue studying international relations. Also great following on from studying global politics in VCE. Can be tricky at the start - lots of content, but tutors are great at helping out and giving good feedback to improve your writing.

Interesting subject but covers a lot of content in a short span of time. Not an easy subject to do well in, however isn’t difficult either. I found after talking to my tutor after my first assignment that my grades improved drastically - them knowing who you are and that you’re interested in the subject definitely helps your grades!

Really interesting subject, definitely has lots and lots of content but lectures were super engaging and tutes brought up some really relevant questions and thought provoking discussions. It's definitely hard work and I probably wouldn't recommend this for people who aren't looking for a challenge or aren't overly confident writing essays, but if you're considering majoring in pol or history, it's a really great subject. I ended up with a H2B, which let's be real isn't all that great, but i actually loved this subject so much i decided to change my major to pol :)

It is a wonderful subject for anyone who is deeply interested in politics and international relations. The content is huge and it's the students' responsibilty to keep up with it by completing the extra readings and participating in the tutorials. The lecturers are amazing so make full use of their knowledge. The assignments can be intimidating but you can manage to score good with right skills.

Lectures were wonderful but it's a LOT of content to be crammed into twelve weeks – felt like I had to keep going back to them over and over just to get the very gist of what was going on. Readings were a bit tediously long and convoluted at times. Tutorials from what I heard were hit or miss, my tutor was rather out of depth and no one in the tutorial wanted to particularly speak up which left the floor to the same four out of sixteen people every lesson, but content wise it was a pretty good subject. Just be prepared for it to take up a lot of your time, and really only do it if you're keen on politics as a major.
