Better than French 5 in that they took some of our feedback on board - more clear assessment instructions and more oral practice. Doing this class over Zoom was frustrating because there was a lot less discussion than there could've been. There was quite a bit of focus on French history which I personally found less interesting, and the debates would have been more fun had the tutor explained their structure properly and let us actually practise.

I found this class great because you really get to practice your french orally and engage in different topics throughout the semester. It's quite easy if you're on top of your work.

VERY oral heavy but if you are fairly confident with speaking already you should be fine. Content was usually pretty interesting although the movie which you have to write an essay on (Ridicule) is fuckin bonkers and to be honest mildly disturbing. Like other people said, you're expected to do 1-2 readings for each tute (although let's be real i stopped doing that around week 9) and depending on your tutor there may also be lots of grammar sheets to do at home/in class. Despite this, i do really feel like my french has improved and i found the grammar focus really helpful bc i have done almost none since finishing school. Mostly people all have around the same level of french, although there is always gonna be a bit of a mix. I got a 39 in VCE French and ended up with a H1, so I don't think it's too hard to do well in

I liked that the subject was not politics-heavy, however learning about 19th century France wasn't any less boring. We were also thrown straight into writing full-length essays in French, which led to me receiving my first ever H3. The subject also had a big focus on speaking, which personally I found to be very annoying because, to put it straight, no one likes French orals. My accent is perfectly fine because I have been doing French since I was 5 years old and I have lived in a French-speaking country, but I am simply better at expressing myself through writing, no matter what language.

Not the best French subject but if you gotta do it, you gotta do it. Loads of out-of-class prep for each tutorial (2 per week). The assessments are also pretty hard and the content isn't that interesting until about week 7 or 8. Some good topics covered tho.

This subject is really challenging because the assessment tasks are not clearly explained, nor are any examples given as to what the expect standard for tests is. A lot of the content that is discussed is really dry and you are expected to do HEAPS of preparation and work out side of the class. Its crazy stressful and the tutors are really harsh markers :(

French 6 is fairly easy if you are up to date and confident in your oral skills :)

A lot more relaxed than French 5...
