This is a very interesting subject if you want to do anything in the Geotechnical field. Yinghui Tian was a great, passionate lecturer. The competitive element of the subject also encouraged students to do well (extra marks for good projects). I now have a weird fascination with offshore wind farms, but did have nightmares about dams and GeoStudio. -1 star for the design project. DO NOT leave the design project to the last minute. Like others have said, start early and work on it consistently. I started it 9 days before it was due and it nearly killed me. It was originally released with ~11 weeks' notice. I was so sick the week after and lost a lot of sleep and weight.

The delivery of this subject is terrible and poorly coordinated and not much new content is taught. Design project is heavily dependant on past knowledge from Earth Processes and Fluid Mechanics. Assessment for this subject is split up into 3 parts. Design Project (50%, hurdle), Lab report (5%), Workbook entries (5%) and a final exam (40%, hurdle). They release the assignment in the first week of the semester so work on it consistently and try not to fall behind. Overall I would say getting a H2A is not difficult at all. You can easily get a H1 for the 50% design project if you work on it consistently.
