In this seminar, Andrew Godwin (Associate Director of the Asian Law Centre, Melbourne Law School) will discuss the central role that property rights and relations (particularly concerning land) have played in China’s economic, political and legal development since 1949. He will explore fundamental questions, include the following:

• What unresolved challenges does China face in the area of property rights and relations?
• What impact do property rights and relations have on China’s economic development?
• What explains the huge appetite of Chinese investors in purchasing property in overseas markets such as Australia?
