Hello Filmsoc Friends!

This week we are collaborating with the Japanese Club to bring you:

POSTMAN BLUES (Hiroyuki Tanaka, 1997)

Sawaki (Shinichi Tsutsumi) is a postman tired of the drudgery of his delivery routine. His dull life changes abruptly when he comes across his old school chum Noguchi (Keisuke Horibe), now employed as a drug dealer for the Yakuza. Their amiable conversation results in a series of mix-ups involving Sawaki's mail bag, a package of drugs and Noguchi's recently severed pinkie. Before he knows what's happening, Sawaki is being pursued by the police, who mistakenly think he is a dangerous criminal.

Hailed as one of the best works of Hiroyuki Tanaka, the film was commercially successful and was declared a hit at the Japanese box office, going on to win the 'Audience Award for Best Feature Film’ at the Bangkok Film Festival, and the ‘New Blood Award’ at the Cognac Police Film Festival.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE: After the screening at ~4:20pm, we'll be heading down to the Shaw Davey Slum (5 mins walk from uni) for Nomikai with FREE BEER/CIDER & CHIPS and a chat about the film and Japanese cinema- just follow the committee after the screening!

As always, there will be free drinks and pizza, so bring your friends and we hope to see you all there!

Warm Regards,
