Hey Filmsocers!

This week we are honouring the tradition of collaborating with the auspicious New Zealand Student Society (NZSS), to bring you:

Whale Rider (Caro, 2002)

The critically-acclaimed New Zealand film follows the plight of a young Maori girl, Kahu Paikea Apirana, as she fights to become the chief of the tribe. Hers by birth right, she needs to break the time-honoured male-only tradition and, most of all, convince her grandfather.

Whale Rider did very well at the Toronto International Film Festival upon release and Keisha Castle-Hughes (Kahu) even went on to get nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

So come along and bring your friends, as always FREE pizza and drinks!

Warm Regards,

Melbourne University Film Society

Friday 12th August, 2pm.
