Fantastic and interesting (elective) subject, I'll never be the same. Study what's written down, the lecturers talked about interesting but un-assessable things all the time. I got a HD by focusing a lot on people and theories that seemed important. Watch a 5 minute youtube video or two on every concept just to hear it differently and cement the name/concept relationship. You have to remember which details go with which name/theory, it's not enough to understand the model. For the essay, get the style, formatting, referencing perfect, you're learning to write articles properly.

An interesting subject that covers lots of different areas of psychology. The essay was a very manageable and guided introduction to writing in psychology.

Overall a really comprehensive and interesting subject, but the final exam felt disproportionately difficult and tested on a lot of material that hadn't yet been taught.

Loads of reading, great comprehensive introduction you get far more than you bargain for.

The unit aims to familiarise students with the main names, theories and debates of psychology. The deeper I have gotten into my psyc degree the more I have begun to appreciate this introductory unit for what it is: A taster of what is to come. At the time, I found that it just touched the surface on so many different areas that it became a memory game more than anything. i took the unit in trimester 3 so I had a phd student as the coordinator and he was fantastic.

Relatively manageable workload, provided you're organised. 40 pages of reading per topic, usually 1 topic per week so don't fall behind! Top tip for PSYC101: Textbook readings are far more important than lectures! After 3 classes, I didn't even bother (interesting as they were).

really informative class to take that teaches a range of basic concepts to students

Gives a good taste of the aspects of psychology

A great introduction to scientific theory and the evolution of psychology. The diverse area covered - developmental psychology, learning, memory, biopsychology - can make it feel a bit scattershot, but also keeps it interesting and fresh the whole way through.
