UniMelb Science Tutor Sunnia
Hi, I'm Sunnia!
I'm a UniMelb student studying Science.
I have been tutoring first year undergraduate chemistry part-time for the last couple of years during my PhD and masters at the University of Melbourne.
I have an exceptional grasp of the chemistry subject matter, having done a Bachelors, Masters and PhD in the subject. This allows me to deliver chemistry lessons with exceptional clarity. As you start relating to these elusive :-) ideas you will naturally develop more interest in chemistry which will improve your understanding and retention of the subject.
In my groups, I follow a problem solving approach. We will work through a lot of problems to break down and introduce the concepts in bite size pieces while having a lot of fun. I also make sure that we practice a lot of exam type questions while having fun discovering chemistry, so that you are prepared for the exam.
As you can probably tell, I am an enthusiastic and responsible tutor. I put in effort to revise and organise my lessons prior to going for a tutoring session, so that all the concepts are fresh in my head. I am also very good at identifying the gaps in my student's understanding and don't shy away from putting in extra work to fill in those gaps. For example, many times I have noticed that the students can't quite grasp a chemistry concept because they don't know the founding ideas that may follow from physics or maths. I bring them up to speed in these areas rather that just continuing on and having a student who is intimidated by chemistry.
The subjects listed here are only representative of the subjects I can teach. My rates are $ 60 per hour for one on one tutoring, however I usually tutor in groups of 3-5 students and charge $ 40 to $ 25 per student per hour.
After having Sunnia a tutor last semester, would I highly recommend her to others. She has an in-depth understanding of chemistry and does a fantastic job explaining these concepts to her students. After starting lessons with Sunnia, I noticed that my confidence in chemistry had grown. These sessions allowed me to fully understand the content and consolidate new concepts through repeatedly doing practice questions. They also made me interested in the content itself - especially due to the supportive learning environment created. Sunnia was an extremely encouraging and helpful tutor, would definitely recommend lessons with her!

Sunnia's lessons were clear and structured; we were also given ample opportunity to practice and familiarise ourselves with exam style problems. She would ask us questions frequently in order to make sure everyone in the study group was following along.
I'm really glad to have approached Sunnia for help in CHEM10004!

Very happy with the help provided by Sunnia. Sunnia went out of her way to help out at short notice with chemistry 1 less than a week before exams and we will certainly continue with receiving chemistry 2 lessons next semester. Thank you
