Reviews

The course content was really great and I did feel I was well prepared for the exams and the assignment. I also really enjoyed the lecturer through most of the course. However, there are no tutorials, just an 8:30 am seminar that is not recorded. The lecturer refused to record the lectures and said this was because he wanted his students to actually show up. Because of this I ended up going in on a day when I was extremely ill. He also made it a competitive atmosphere amongst students. Finally, when I set up a meeting with the lecturer to gain advice about switching into his program he (without having looked at my grades to know I was doing well in his course) told me I would be better off doing childcare or regular psychology as I seemed like the type of person to want a lot of electives, as I had barely gotten the chance to speak to him I assume he came to this conclusion based on the way I look. I had written out pages of questions to ask him and he did not let me ask a single one, he spoke over me the whole time and he made me feel like garbage. I ended up switching out of Swinburne into a new uni where I am doing the program I wanted to do and feel much better about it. I would not recommend this course if you do not have to take it. The content is great but the lecturer does little to help his students succeed.

Have to agree with all the other reviews, this unit is fun, interesting and a nice change from the seriousness of the psych units. Definitely an awesome elective choice to change things up a bit! Of course the exam does have long answer questions, so if these are not your strength then maybe avoid it - I should stress though that the support and guidance for exam prep was so well done that this concern should be somewhat wavered.

Absolutely loved this unit! The lecturer is informative and entertaining, which makes going to a 3-hour, 8:30am lecture worth it! Would do it again if I could!

Interesting unit. Clear and informative. Assignments and exams are easy to achieve well on as everything is laid out simply. Students who are new to, or struggle with peer-reviewed studies may need some help, or just work hard for the assignment.

Great introduction to forensic psych - leads well into the advanced topic too by providing great foundations.
