Review

5 star student reviews:''A must have for teachers-to-be, especially those who are a bit shaky on their maths knowledge!''Not many maths books keep me fixated but this is one that is definitely worth its money.''''It is a book I will be using even when in the classroom''''Some students refer to the book as their ''maths bible"" and I have spoken to and have had e-mails from former students who continue to refer to it (we recommend that they buy it from Day One), saying ""Thank goodness to Haylock!'' 5.0 out of 5 stars Calling all primary teachers/ students

Whist studying for a degree in education I found this book invaluable. Explains all areas of maths in primary in a well explained manner. This book has helped me through many assignments. As a student teacher this book greatly helped me as I was not very confident with maths myself and aided me to be able to feel confident teaching methods to the children.
I would highly recommend to anyone working in primary or studying educational studies. Not just for students! Since working in a primary school I have referred to this book many times to develop my knowledge and understanding further and aids me to be able to offer more to the children I work with.

If you are going to buy one book for your teacher training, I would say this should definitely be it! Haylock approached mathematical concepts in very approachable language and if it's not your strong point (like me), this is a great way of bettering your understanding. There are also simple exercises you can complete yourself to test your knowledge after reading each section. It is really brilliant.

A tad pricey, but great book. Recommended for any teacher training. It’s less ‘heavy’ when you read it when you’ve been in the classroom for a bit and can put the ideas in context.

This is a fantastic resource for primary teachers as it explains the links and connections in maths and suggests the clearest way to teach concepts to children. The interactive resources are excellent including practical ideas for lesson plans from Y1-6.
the student workbook for mathematics is a wonderful accompaniment and I have used this to form some of my lesson plans for the coming half term. I cannot sing the praises of this book enough.
